Domestic violence suspect arrested following unsuccessful SWAT team search in Citrus Heights

A Citrus Heights police SWAT team was called to a home early Monday in response to a domestic violence report.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital for treatment, Citrus Heights police said. Officers later arrested Benjamin Haven, 31, on felony domestic violence charges.

Police said at about 3:45 a.m. they received a report about domestic violence at a home in the 7800 block of Beaupre Way. The victim told the officers who responded that the suspect, Haven, was still in the home.

Expectant mother driver in Antelope crash

The California Highway Patrol said a woman who is 20 weeks pregnant was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after her minivan was struck by a pickup truck Monday in Antelope.

The baby is expected to live. CHP said the woman, 33, was driving south on Palmerson Drive when her minivan was struck by a pickup truck that ran a red light on westbound Palmerson Drive. The pickup truck was driven by a 39-year-old man from Sacramento.

Both the man and the pregnant woman were taken to the hospital. CHP said it suspects that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Man killed at Arden-Arcade apartment complex


A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning at an apartment complex in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento County.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman said the man in his mid-20s was shot at least once in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other information about the victim was available. Bowman said the man's identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office after next of kin is notified.

The shooting happened around midnight in the parking lot of the apartment complex on the 2200 block of Edison Avenue. Bowman said detectives are investigating the shooting. No other information about the homicide was available.

Another victim accuses former choir director of sexual assault

A former North Highlands church choir director faces addition charges of sexual assault of a minor after another victim came forward, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office said.

Kareem Mitchell, 42, was charged with four counts of oral copulation with a minor under the age of 18 during his arraignment Wednesday. According to the criminal complaint filed by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, the abuse lasted between January 2001 and August 2001.

Luther Frazier, 34, of Citrus Heights, was booked into Sacramento County Jail for murder, police spokesperson Christine Ford said.

Teen heart transplant patient to reunite with missing dog

CITRUS HEIGHTS -- It's a love fellow pet owners can understand.

Citrus Heights teen Ray Remick is recovering from a recent heart transplant surgery. He has been in the hospital for weeks, missing his pet bulldog Wilson.

"He asked his mom to bring the dog [Friday]. And she said it's not a good time," Ray's father Jim Remick said.

The family realized on Wednesday Wilson was missing from their fenced in yard.

"The dog is Ray's best friend. Wilson and Ray are inseparable," Remick said. "Over the last few months, they've not been able to be together."

The 17-year-old high school student went into congestive heart failure in August 2014. He was born with a single-ventricle heart and has been fighting for his life during his months long stay at the hospital.

Attempted rape leads to arrest in Antelope

A man who attempted to rape a woman Sunday in Antelope fled after a passerby stopped to help the victim, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said.

A suspect in the attack was later arrested.

Eric Torres, 20, of Antelope was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of kidnapping and assault with the intent to commit rape, the sheriff's department said. He is being held on $1 million bail.

According to the sheriff's department, a teenage girl was walking on North Loop Boulevard near Walerga Road Sunday when a man dragged her into nearby brush and attempted to sexually assault her.

"A passerby Good Samaritan who witnessed the attack stopped to help the victim as her attacker fled into a nearby residential area where he was apprehended by Sheriff's patrol deputies," the sheriff's office wrote in a press release.

Citrus Heights police need help finding homicide victim's van

Citrus Heights police need help locating a van that belonged to a woman who was killed Monday afternoon, Sgt. Bryan G. Fritsch said in a press release Tuesday morning.

Investigators believed the van was taken by a "person of interest" involved in the woman's death. Fritsch said that police were searching for a 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan. The van was silver with a California license plate that read 6FVH704.

Orangevale resident tackles and detains suspect who was fleeing police

A man who was fleeing police early Wednesday morning in Orangevale was tackled and detained by a resident until police arrived, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said they received a call at 3:20 a.m. from a city worker who was being harassed by a man in a truck. The man allegedly was yelling and spinning donuts with his truck according to the witness.

Citrus Heights PD: Homicide victim's van found, suspect arrested

Citrus Heights police announced Wednesday that they had located a van belonging to a homicide victim who was killed Monday. They also arrested a man suspected of committing the murder, according to detective Vincent Young with the Citrus Heights police department.

Allen Bocteemus Franks, 48, was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail for murder after he was found with a van belonging to a woman who was found unresponsive. The victim later died at a hospital according to Young.

The van and Franks were located in the area of Marysville Boulevard. The victim was identified as Citrus Heights resident Kimberly Chittenden.

The family of a man suspected of carjacking a man's Ford Bronco Tuesday questioned what happened and why.

Jose Roberto Leon, 22, was found dead inside a Natomas home after a standoff ended Tuesday evening, Sacramento police said.

Police, Sacramento County sheriff's deputies and CHP officers surrounded the home in 6000 block of Bridgecross Drive after Leon drove away from the shooting and carjacking scene in Rio Linda and barricaded himself inside.

The incident started around 3:45 p.m. when a CHP officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist for speeding. The officer reportedly fired shots during a physical altercation with Leon according to Sacramento sheriff spokesperson Lisa Bowman.

Leon ran from the scene to Dry Creek Road and Elkhorn Boulevard and carjacked a Ford Bronco that was stopped at the intersection.

Man wanted for alleged Citrus Heights robbery

The Citrus Heights Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly robbed a Subway on Tupelo Drive near Antelope Road on Saturday, March 14.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s standing about 5 foot 6 inches tall with a slender build. According to police, the suspect had braided hair and a light mustache. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, hooded sweatshirt and baggy jeans.

Police said he got into the passenger side of a green two door sedan when he left.

Sheriff: Whereabouts of North Highlands girl unknown

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in regard to a 13-year-old girl from North Highlands who was last seen on Friday, March 20.

Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Bowman said Tiajhanay Ward-Burt is considered at risk because she may be in communication with relatives who are not her custodial guardians and because of that, she may not be safe.

Tiajhanay was described as of mixed race with a light-skinned complexion, brown eyes and long braided brown hair with extensions. She is 5 feet in 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds.

When Tiajhanay was last seen Friday as she left home in the 6500 block of Larry Way on her way to school, Bowman said she was wearing a black, short-sleeved shirt, a gray "Cali" hooded sweatshirt, multi-colored parachute pants and black tennis shoes.

Man arrested in murder of Citrus Heights woman

A man has been arrested and booked into custody in the violent death of a woman overnight in Citrus Heights.

Citrus Heights police Sgt. Michael Wells said officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Cook Avenue at 1:43 a.m. Thursday in response to a report about an assault. Arriving officers found a woman who was severely injured. Wells said she was transported to a local hospital but did not survive.

Investigating detectives identified a person potentially responsible for the attack who was known to the victim, Wells said.

At 2:56 a.m., Wells said dispatchers received a call from that person, saying he wanted to surrender. Officers went to the man's location and arrested him. He was identified as William Patrick Hendrickson.

Wells said the identity of the victim would be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.

Burning roof collapse triggers Mayday call

Sacramento Metro firefighters responded to battle a house fire on Raffia Court in Antelope Thursday afternoon.

The occupants of the home got out safely. Two of them were transported to area hospitals for smoke inhalation, according to a firefighter spokesperson.

As crews fought the flames , the roof caved in with two firefighters in the structure, triggering a Mayday call for help. The firefighters made it out safely and were not injured.

Crews sprayed water on the home next door to keep the flames from spreading.

There was no immediate word on what ignited the fire or an estimate of the damage.

An 11-year-old boy with autism who went missing Friday morning has been found.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department tweeted 11-year-old Jayden Preston was found safe.

Deputies and detectives were searching in the area of Winding Way and College Oak Drive. Jayden had been last seen at 7 a.m.

Deputy-involved shooting leaves 1 injured in North Highlands

A man fired a gun at another man in the parking lot of a North Highlands drugstore before he was struck by a gunshot fired by a sheriff's deputy, according to authorities.

No citizens were initially believed to be injured, Sacramento County sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Lisa Bowman said.

The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital with an arm wound. He was conscious and talking, Bowman said.

The incident took place in the area of a 7/11 at Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard. Bowman said deputies had been dispatched there at 12:41 p.m. in response to a call from a citizen that she was being followed by a man who was swearing at her and wouldn't leave her alone. It wasn't clear if she knew the man.

Car into pole closes part of Watt Avenue

A vehicle that crashed into a pole Tuesday morning temporarily shutdown both northbound and southbound lanes on Watt Avenue, California Highway Patrol reported.

Lanes in both directions were closed between Elkhorn and Don Julio Boulevards. SMUD crews worked to remove the wires, pole and vehicle from the roadway according to CHP spokesperson Richard Wetzel.

The scene was cleared around 6:45 a.m.

David Edward Wilt, 58, was arrested after a nearly 15-hour standoff with Citrus Heights police Thursday night.

Sgt. Mike Wells said police received a call at 6:40 a.m. for a domestic incident involving a man and woman at a home in the 6300 block of Trenton Way, near Auburn Boulevard.
